Antique Persian Bahktiari Rug
About the Item
Hand woven in Southern Persia circa 1890. A large scale village workshop weaving of the Baktiari tribal group.
Construction: All wool pile on a cotton foundation, non depressed warp weave using Persian knotting technique, single cord wrapped selvedge, short fringe end finish.
Design type: A medium scale all over design of leaf and vine clusters with smaller floral elements throughout. This drawing is based on early “Zili Sultan” examples of Western Persia. A large scale arabesque style border frames the piece.
Color: Softer abrashed indigo with earth tones inform the palette of this example.
