About the Item

78761 Distressed Antique Persian Kerman Rug, 03'10 x 06'02. The legacy of Kerman rugs originates from the heart of south-central Iran, within the historic city of Kerman. This bustling center of weaving embodies centuries-old artistry, crafting exquisite Persian carpets that captivate with their impeccable craftsmanship, intricate designs, and vibrant color schemes. Admired by collectors and enthusiasts worldwide, Kerman rugs beckon with their timeless allure, inviting all into a world where tradition intertwines seamlessly with beauty in every carefully woven knot. In this hand-knotted wool distressed antique Persian Kerman rug, rustic elegance intertwines with relaxed refinement, offering a timeless allure. The neutral beige backdrop, lovingly time-worn, serves as the canvas for an enchanting allover floral pattern. Palmettes and rosettes unite in harmonious dance, culminating in a grand central cross-cruciform medallion that commands attention. From the rich burgundy red corner spandrels, trefoil pendants gracefully extend, their presence accentuated by intricate acanthus scrollwork. Encircling this captivating composition is a border of deep navy blue, adorned with rosettes and palmettes that echo the motifs found within the rug's field. This border, flanked by inner and outer floral guard borders, adds a touch of depth and sophistication to the rug's design. Each element, meticulously crafted and thoughtfully placed, contributes to the rug's overall aura of rustic elegance and refined beauty. As a testament to its enduring charm and timeless appeal, this distressed antique Persian Kerman rug invites admiration and captivates with its intricate details and rich color palette. Antique Persian Sarouk Area Rug
Located in New York, NY
Sarouk is a name of a village situated about 25 miles north of Arak (Sultanabad). This region became one of the most active regions of carpet weaving in the late 19th century through the early 20th century. The city's most famous designer was named Farahan. To be able to compete with Kashan in rug commerce, Farahan designed rugs with center medallion motives. Today, these carpets are referred to as Antique 19th century Farahan Sarouks. In the 1920s and 1930s a well-known rug dealer in New York thought that Americans would buy rose-field carpets with blue borders and detached floral motives. During that period, a vast number of Sarouks with rose-fields and all over floral patterns were woven and exported to the American market. However, the natural dyed rose color did not stand up to the alkaline bath to which new rugs in Arak were subjected in the finishing process. The rose color faded radically. But instead of changing the finishing process or changing the composition of the dyes to stand up to alkali, New York merchants "solved" the problem by arming their staffs with synthetic dyes and little paint brushes with which they painted back in the rose-color in the entire fields of thousands and thousands of rugs and carpets over a period of 20 years. Today, Antique Sarouk rugs and carpets...
