About the Item

73364, antique Persian Kermanshah rug with William Morris Arts & Crafts style. The architectural elements of naturalistic forms combined with Arts & Crafts style, this hand knotted wool antique Persian Kermanshah rug astounds with its beauty and draws inspiration from William Morris. Taking center stage is a concentric eight-point cusped medallion anchored with palmette pendants and outlined with serrated frondescence vinery. The abrashed field is covered with an all-over dense botanical pattern composed of blooming palmettes, stylized florals, curved sickle leaves, and vines. A cartouche-style motif with florals and foliage outlined with cloudband vinery sprouts from each corner spandrel. It is enclosed with a Herati border variation flanked with a double inner and outer acanthus botanical Meander guard border. The overall composition is distinctly reminiscent of the Arts & Crafts movement carpet designs of late nineteenth and early twentieth century England. The Arts & Crafts movement celebrated craftsmanship and simple, informal folk styles of decoration. Leading designers of the movement, such as William Morris and C.F.A. Voysey, embraced hand knotted rug making and crafted high-quality woven textiles in contrast to the overly decorative manufactured goods popular at the time. With its English-inspired charm and earthy color palette informed by the natural world, this antique Persian Kermanshah rug emanates so much character and would be a wonderful addition to any interior especially one inspired by the Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau or Prairie School movements. Perfect for a great room, wine cellar, executive suite, conservatory, state room, royal suite, hotel lobby, music room, living room, dining room, drawing room, private library, golf locker room, billiards room, clubhouse, large home office, master retreat, private Chambers, studio, study, loft, lounge, entertainment parlor, trophy room, large bedroom, or formal sitting room. Well-suited for a wide range of interior styles: Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, Prairie School, Craftsman, Biophilic Design, Traditional, Eclectic, Modern, Contemporary, Industrial, Rustic, Artisan, Lodge, Cabin, Cottage, Bungalow, Manor House, Tudor, Edwardian, Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Mediterranean, Old World, Neoclassical, Cottage, and English Country. Rendered in variegated shades camel, ruby red, navy blue, royal blue, mauve, brass, rose, ecru, burgundy, ink blue, sand, and tan with other accent colors. Desirable age wear. Abrash. Hand knotted wool. Made in Iran. Measures: 10'01 x 14'08.
