About the Item

This antique Persian Serapi rug has an ivory field with angular brick-red, ice-blue and medium blue angular palmette and serrated leaf and flowerhead vine around a terracotta-red stepped lozenge with bold palmette pendants, a sea-blue cusped medallion with a central floral rosette issuing angular floral vine surrounded by narrow band of angular vine linking an angular light blue palmette in each corner, the ice-blue, terracotta-red and ivory linked spandrels similar, in a broad terracotta-red border of light blue, ivory, medium blue turtle-palmettes linked by angular leafy and flowerhead vine between indigo-blue floral vine and ivory linked lozenge stripes. Persian Serapi rugs, originating from the Heriz region in northwestern Iran, are prized for their durability, rich geometric designs, and vibrant color palettes. Known for their large central medallions and bold patterns, these rugs typically feature deep reds, blues, and ivory tones, derived from natural vegetable dyes.
