About the Item

Made with hand-knotted wool circa 1900-1910, this 4x9 antique Persian Sarab runner rug is an extremely rare and exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim’s curations of this celebrated weaving tradition. On the Design: Admirers of the craft will appreciate this early-20th century Persian Sarab rug as an especially archaic piece of art, exhibiting an old-world charm in its rustic, yet elegant design. A blue and brown field underscores its marriage of medallion style and all-over field designs in both rich and vibrant colors, rendered using delicious natural dyes that have aged particularly beautifully. Warm tones of gold, brown, pink, red, and blue accent both the field medallions and intricate borders alike, and connoisseurs may further admire the subtle sense of movement that its color variations lend the geometry—a subdued, but intriguing departure from traditional area rugs of its period. It’s a fine play of rustic motifs in a reserved, sophisticated manner, and its gracious size offers vast design applications today. Condition: This antique Persian Sarab runner rug further enjoys good condition for its age and lineage.
