About the Item

19th century Persian Kirman botanic red, green and beige handwoven wool rug Size: 4'0" × 6'3" (121 × 190 cm) This circa 1880 antique Persian Kirman rug features a strikingly detailed all-over design of floral abstractions and arabesques in red, green and black. Shapes such as the boteh can be seen throughout the late 19th century antique carpet, a paisley shape typically representing a leaf or a pinecone, the boteh is a staple of quality Oriental rug weaving and can represent longevity and prosperity. Antique Kirman carpets are sought-after collectors' items for a number of reasons, including their broad range of designs, an elaborate palette, use of natural dyes and fibers, great tensile strength and expert color combinations. The rugs are typically cotton-foundation with high knot densities, and frequently have intricate all-over floral patterns - as seen in this particular carpet. Golam Hussein, Sherefat Khan and Arjomand are among the most well-known 20th century Kirman designers. Rich in heritage and artistry, this handmade rug exemplifies the high standards of Doris Leslie Blau’s curated pieces. With a wide range of prices, Doris Leslie Blau makes exceptional rugs accessible to collectors and designers alike.
