Antique rugs that were executed in the Meshad weaving center are considered the finest of the entire Khorassan province. They usually comprise a cotton foundation and exceptionally tight, asymmetric knot with density reaching 160 000-260 000 knots per square meter, which is a guarantee of everlasting quality. Mashad rugs are famous for their soft and luminous woolen pile – many claim their quality is second to none.
This early 20th-century Persian Meshad antique rug displays rows of enlarged palmettes among dense scrolling floral and leafy vinery in green, blue and beige on a navy background. This opulent composition is embraced with a multiple border with ornaments, palmettes, floral and scrolling vinery.
