Finely Woven Antique Kashan with A Scalloped Medallion
About the Item
This finely woven city piece shows a gently scalloped ogival red medallion, with weeping willows centring a light blue sub-medallion. Dark blue field with octogramme and cross tiles enclosing floral arrays. Red corners with oblique weeping willows. Main dark blue border with half-round escutcheons enclosing petal bouquets. Petal palmette corners. Extremely well draughted and imaginatively executed. The tile work in the field follows much earlier ceramic archetypes. Pale straw minors with reversing fan palmettes and rosettes. On cotton, asymmetric knots.
