First Quarter 20th Century Heriz

About the Item

This moderately woven NW Persian village piece shows a traditional madder red field, but with an uncommon centralized pattern of a variety of small smooth and larger torn leaves, often detailed in sky blue. Red strip style border with rosettes and doubly bent leaves. Small areas of spot wear. Natural dyes. Fairly good condition. Rug Measures 9'2x12'4.

Heriz Carpet, 2nd Quarter 20th Century Heriz rugs and carpets were woven in Northwest Persia starting in the Mid-19th century in response to a great increase in demand for rugs internationally. Prior to that, there were no rugs woven (in Persia) for export that exhibited this stylized drawing of plant and flower forms.
