Iraqi Marsh Arab kilim / Wool Woven and Embroidered Ma’dan Wedding Blanket

About the Item

We offer for sale an item that holds charm in every knot and every embroidery that composes it. Coming from Southern Iraq, this item was born with the function of being a Wedding Blanket, as can be understood from the stitching and the embroidery in the shape of an "8" that joins two halves, two similar but not identical runners, as is normal in a handcrafted item. Elaborately embroidered by young Ma’dan girls for their marriage beds and sometimes by mothers for their sons, these blankets are made entirely of wool and through the embroidery technique they contain in their weave the most varied symbols. On the colorful Ma’dan wedding blankets are embroidered human figures, geometric figures, but above all phytomorphic figures such as leaves and flowers. Forgetting its original function for a moment, this splendid artifact can be used as a wall decoration, perhaps just as a bed headboard, or as an exceptional kilim Rug in your home. The item is in good vintage condition, but has a couple of defects on two embroideries visible in the photos and a pink stain probably due to a color transition from the nearby pink color. The item will be shipped to you properly cleaned and ready to be placed in your home. Reach out for any questions.
