Oversized Hamadan Carpet, Late 19th Century

About the Item

Oversized Persian Hamadan Carpet, Late 19th Century Large palace-sized Hamadan carpets of this scale are rare and it is probable that this piece was commissioned for a specific purpose or location. The field uses a particularly intriguing variant of a repeat vegetal all-over design known as the ‘Herati pattern’. About a dozen varieties of flowers and blossoms are drawn throughout the ground with repeating saturated color alternations against an indigo ground. It is in excellent original condition.
