About the Item
This 9×15 antique Persian rug is a rare signature piece from the works of Aboul Ghasem Kermani. Hand-knotted in wool circa 1890-1900, this piece was featured in the National Museum of Iran in Tehran, and is an extremely collectible and import piece in the history of handmade rugs.

Connoisseurs will note that Kermani’s workshop was arguably one of the most prominent of the 19th century in Iran. This particular Kerman rug enjoys a dense, elaborate all over pattern with various floral motifs, and a notable repeat of cypress tree motifs in the field (a time-honored representation of the “Tree of Life” in antique rugs, and one of the most finely detailed examples of it we’ve seen). Every detail, from its fine craftsmanship to its sheer range of colors and sense of movement, connotes a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
