Small Antique Farahan Rug

About the Item

Diminutive Farahan Sarouk small collector piece - very rare and hard to find antique Farahan Sarouk mat. Of excellent quality in weave and wool. Super soft to the touch and look: Utterly breathtaking in person. These smaller pieces were meant to be used when made, although hardly survived. Those which have survived through the decades are often in lesser condition or tied up in private stock/collections hardly available for sale. This particular piece has a beautiful deep red field with top colors of dark blue, terra cotta, copper, bronze, soft blues, golds, softened cranberry, etc. The carpet does have some contouring or etching of the browns from age. We are unsure on exact age, although we place a conservative weaving date on this rug to be 1910's. There are some characteristics which would hint to earlier, perhaps 1890 or slightly older. As an interesting note, this carpet does have what appears to be some painting/tinting the field, which is likely from the late 1920's or 30's. This piece does have some loss to the corners and ends as seen in photographs, although at this stage in its life would best service as an excellent accent piece atop a coffee table, or wall hanging in an area of the home that needs that super special touch of a warm art piece. Sizes measures 1'10" x 2'5".
