About the Item
This hand-woven, long nomadic Qashqai rug was made in Iran during the 1920s. Naturally dyed in shades of green and beige. The central point of the rug is a five-piece, symmetrical medallion. The rug shows geometric, floral motifs.
Often called a Qashqai runner, it is a type of rug woven by the nomadic Qashqai tribes of southern Iran, especially around Shiraz. As with other Qashqai rugs, nomadic longitudinal rugs often feature geometric patterns such as rhombuses, rectangles, hexagons, and nature-inspired motifs such as stylized trees, flowers, and animal figures. Boteh motifs, a pattern resembling a drop or a small pine tree, also appear frequently. Because of their length, the patterns on longitudinal rugs are usually placed parallel to the long edge. This can include repeating stripes of patterns or a single, continuous motif running the length of the rug. Qashqai carpets are characterised by their vibrant colours. These colours are traditionally obtained from natural dyes, which gives them a natural depth and durability. Like all Qashqai carpets, the long carpets are hand-woven, making each piece unique. The use of symmetrical knots, the Persian or Senneh knot, guarantees precision in the reproduction of patterns and high durability. High-quality wool is used. The wool used in Qashqai carpets is usually soft and dense, making the carpet both durable and pleasant to the touch. Due to their durability, they are well-suited to areas with high traffic. These carpets are an expression of the traditions and craftsmanship of the Qashqai tribes, reflecting their nomadic lifestyle, beliefs, history, tribal legends and closeness to nature. Valued for their quality, unique patterns and rich cultural significance, their hand-made workmanship makes them works of applied art that will last for many years.
The carpet is in original vintage condition. It has signs of age-related wear, minor losses in flecce, scrapes. The rug will be professionally cleaned and ready for use before shipping.
