Zoroastrian Mid-Century Vintage Semi Antique
About the Item
A very hard to find Yazd rug, woven in a village near Yazd the desert city of Iran – a village which by all accounts has ceased weaving , since about 1960. This piece is a superior example colour and pattern wise of this narrow niche which is a total deviation from what is normally described as the Yazd weaving style: which features flowers and vines.
No, this is composed of Zoroastrian symbols the world’s oldest monotheistic religion founded circa 8000-10000 BC, of which Yazd remains the centre.
Notice the integrated coulour bars and the sharp edged motifs in detail – this is a compelling work of art. One thinks of the Navajo pieces much sought after in the American market, and costly. A piece such as this is incomparably rarer and radiates a similar ancient tribal set of values and vision , and strong angular lines --though the work is considerably more complex and refined.
This piece, of which we have only two examples was found in our large acquisition from a “ forgotten” mid east warehouse.
It is in excellent condition.
