About the Item
A Beautiful And Highly Artistic Vintage Swedish Kilim Mid Century Modern Double Sided Rug, Origin: Sweden, Circa: Mid- 20th Century This brightly-colored vintage rug displays ellipse-shaped repeating geometric motifs that flow both vertically and horizontally in an all-over pattern throughout the carpet. Gradations of tones of color from brown to gold and cerise to strawberry create the feeling of waves bathed in sunlight rippling slowly across a lake. Dark brown underlies the lighter colors, an interesting contrast of light and dark that accentuates the intertwining and gracefully tapering arms of the ellipses.
Two distinct horizontal lines divide the carpet into three bold zones of color, transitioning from multiple reds to brown and gold, and from brown and gold to an ordered mélange of reds overlying tans and brown. The flat-weave rug weaving technique adds texture, accentuating both the vertical and horizontal elements of the work. The rows of knots rise vertically through bands of pattern and color and create a horizontal pattern across the width of this Swedish rug. The ends are finished in vibrant cerise, the dominant color of the weaving.
