About the Item
The After Matisse colourful area rug draws its inspiration from Henri Matisse’s iconic paper cutouts. Hand woven by artisan weavers, this bright and playful area rug has a special sculptural quality. This colourful area rug has been created by weaving variable pile heights, which combined with hand carving, results in a luxurious sculptured texture.
Sonya created the After Matisse rug from a collage of overlapping squares of colours. The 25 100% wool colours replicate the effect of transparent colours mixing together. The cut-out squares are combined to create a single area rug combining shades of blue, green, turquoise, yellow, orange, pink and purple. The effect of translucency can be seen in the aqua, turquoise, violet, rose and rust brown shades that emerge.

Since then Sonya Winner Rugs have been a favourite with discerning buyers, stylists and celebrities worldwide. Sonya designs her modern rugs in her London studio space where the showroom is located. Each year Sonya and her small team work on a number of new rug designs and a small number of bespoke rugs commissions.
