Handwoven in wool circa 1880-1890, this 2x4 antique Swedish tapestry flatweave is from Rug & Kilim’s new collection of classic Scandinavian tapestries and folk art.
On the Design:
Bright red tones underscores pictorials and geometric patterns in a play of chocolate brown, green and blue hues, with beige and white accents the keen eye will further note. The animals in the medallions seem to most closely resemble unicorns, as the detailing close to their ‘heads’ seems to depict horns atop the horse-like body—a rare design in a rich piece of folk art.
