About the Item
Entirely hand-knotted rug made by Italian artist Sandra Marconato (1927-2016), accompanied by its authentication. The work dates back to 1970 and was exhibited in the same year at the Adelphi Gallery in Padua during one of his solo exhibitions.
Sandra Marconato has lived and worked in Padua. She trained at the Venice Art Institute, where she was a student of weaving teacher Anna Akerdal. He then went on to study at the Kvinnlige Industri Skole in Oslo, Norway.
For Marconato, weaving was not just a craft, but a complex art form, where materials, forms and design come together in an expressive and original creation. His work has evolved over time, ranging to a broader field of research, also influenced by the teaching of renowned architect and designer Carlo Scarpa.
