Contemporary Sardinian 'Coperta Tiziana' Carpet Sardinia, Italy. ca. 2009 80% Gray Linen 20% Cotton This textile embodies the ancient and handcrafted artistic tradition of the island of Sardinia. The ‘pibiones’ hand-weaving technique creates motifs in raised bobbles to give a bas-relief effect. This is done by winding thread round a long needle held above the warp threads on the loom. This tradition has been passed from generation to generation through the tessitori artigianali, women who maintain the art of traditional Sardinian handloom weaving. In the studio, the whole process of creating a fabric is by hand, blending ancient traditions, looms, and patterns, within a modern scenario, and achieving the highest textile quality.
