About the Item
HAND-KNOTTED FASHION FOR FLOORS by JEFF AIRD
~
25% Real Chinese Silk, 25% Himalayan Wool, 50% Cactus.
40 KTS per square inch
3 mm Loop Cactus/7 mm Cut Wool+Silk
~
Like elephant skin, with its folds and creases.
The Elephant collection uses huge amounts of yarn to create a springy, thick rug which has a truly rustic feel to it.
These rugs weigh quite a lot as a result.
Cactus is hypoallergenic and runs parallel between the Real Chinese silk and Himalayan wool.

EXPERT CRAFTSPEOPLE WEAVE OUR DESIGNS BY HAND IN NEPAL USING THE TRADITIONAL TIBETAN KNOT.
IT TAKES SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 11 AND 25 WEEKS TO HAND KNOT A JEFF AIRD RUG.
THE CRAFTSPEOPLE DESERVE HUGE CREDIT FOR THEIR WORK.
WE USE ONLY THE FINEST, NATURAL FIBRES IN OUR RUG COLLECTIONS:
- WORM-SPUN CHINESE SILK, HIMALAYAN AND NEW ZEALAND WOOL, JUTE, CACTUS.
~
PURITY OF CRAFT AND MATERIALS
NB: NO MACHINES.
WE NEVER, EVER USE HANDLOOMS, MECHANICAL LOOMS OR HAND TUFTING AS THESE ARE FAR INFERIOR IN QUALITY.
THESE TECHNIQUES ARE FAR QUICKER AND CHEAPER TO MAKE BUT DO NOT LAST.
NB: NO FAKES.
WE NEVER USE BAMBOO SILK, VISCOSE OR ART SILK. WE ONLY USE REAL CHINESE SILK OR HIMALAYAN / NEW ZEALAND WOOL
~

Respect for Natural materials and for the know-how of Craftspeople is always at the heart of any Jeff Aird piece or project.
Jeff Aird began modelling installations of opulent woodwork by British icon Clive Christian in 2006; first in Dublin and then from a flagship showroom in Paris, leading to interior design projects of increasing scale and complexity in Saudi Arabia, USA, South Africa and all over Europe.
Tasked to create miniature wooden scale models and concept sketches of complete properties in Kyoto and Osaka for a famous Japanese family in 2013, Jeff opened a dedicated studio in Paris.
Bespoke stairways, porticos, intricate flooring, furniture, lighting made by outstanding artisans in Ireland, England, France, Italy have since been designed and shipped abroad by Jeff and his team, to be installed by the hardworking artisans who made them.
This combined responsibility of design and build, often in foreign places, has afforded Jeff Aird great experience in what works and what doesn’t:
Modern design grounded in traditional principles remains stylish for decades.
Natural materials and artisan finishes age gracefully, unlike trends and factory production.
Craftspeople - especially those who travel to projects away from home - are underappreciated artists.
