About the Item
• Carpet made to the original design of artist Giacomo Balla, one of the leading exponents of Italian Futurism. The drawing dates from the 1930s and is titled "Flowers + Space," signed "Futur Balla" at the bottom. Hand-knotted in limited edition wool in the 1980s. The design is characterized by a strong visual rhythm, symmetries, color contrasts, and abstract shapes that evoke movement and energy-all hallmarks of Futurism.
Giacomo Balla ( 1871 - 1958) was an Italian painter, sculptor and stage designer. He was a leading exponent of Futurism, signing along with other Italian Futurists the manifestos that enshrined its theoretical aspects.
