French Art Deco Carpet

About the Item

Rugs and carpets in the Art Deco style were popularized in France during the second quarter of the 20th century. In keeping with the aesthetics of the time, an ambiguity between field and borders has been perpetuated and floral forms have undergone a severe shift from naturalism to what might be described as ornamental geometric idealized forms. Soft secondary colors compliment the design. This rug was featured in a 1991 issue of Architectural Digest in an interior designed by Douglas Durkin when he was with Robert Metzger. Formerly from the Dildarian collection.
