This rug has never been used on the floor; its previous owner had hung it on the wall to admire it as a tapestry (which you can also do, we can take care of installing the velcro fixing system).
This magnificent rug, having benefited from a deep cleaning by our experts in our artisanal workshop, is now ready to adorn your interior!
This generously sized rug (300x200cm) is a work of textile art that pays homage to Sonia Delaunay's colorful and geometric aesthetic. It is hand-woven, combining the softness of wool with the robustness of cotton for a texture that is both comfortable and durable.
Style and patterns
Delaunay inspiration: The rug is part of the artistic movement of simultaneism, of which Sonia Delaunay was an emblematic figure. It features the use of simple geometric shapes (triangles, rectangles, semicircles) arranged in a dynamic and asymmetrical manner.
Color palette: The colors are bright and contrasting, characteristic of Delaunay's work. We observe a rich palette including deep reds, varied blues, bright greens, intense blacks and touches of beige and off-white.
Composition: The composition is non-figurative, favoring the harmony of colors and shapes. The patterns seem to float and interact, creating an effect of movement and depth.
Technique and materials
Hand-woven: The rug is made using artisanal weaving techniques, which gives it a unique quality and character.
Wool and cotton: The use of wool for the pile provides softness and warmth, while cotton for the warp and weft ensures the strength and longevity of the rug.
Ambiance and use
This rug is a strong piece that can transform the atmosphere of an interior. It brings a touch of color and dynamism, while evoking the elegance and modernity of 20th century design. It can be used as a centerpiece in a living room, bedroom or office, and harmonizes with various decoration styles, from vintage to contemporary.
Summary
This wool on cotton rug, inspired by Sonia Delaunay, is a functional work of art that combines aesthetics, quality and comfort. Its bright colors, geometric patterns and artisanal manufacturing make it a unique and remarkable piece.

(after) Sonia Delaunay
Sonia Delaunay was a 19th century French Ukrainian painter who was well known for her exploration with simultanism and her contributions to the Orphism movement. Simultanism that is, the simultaneous nature of the contrast of colors is a sub category of Orphism that Sonia and her husband, specialized in. Their abstract and Cubist art style often experimented with the perception of colors in different lightings, layerings, and mediums. Guillaume Appollinaire, a famous art critic, applauded Mrs Delaunay’s art for its, as he described, musical and poetic qualities - qualities that are by nature definitive of the Orphism movement. Delaunay decorated a home, designed furniture, and even had a boutique decorated in her fashions. She also created some once very popular textile patterns - her style heavily inspired by Ukrainian garments and culture was lauded by many. Indeed, she was so recognized that she was one of the first women to hold a ‘retrospective exhibit’ (Tate Modern, 2021) in the Louvre in 1964. Two of her more notable pieces are Electric Prisms from 1914 and Yellow Nude from 1908. Ignoring the need to please her audience with normative beauty aesthetics, Delaunay focuses on enrapturing her audience with her bold use of color and vivid contrasts.
