An Exciting And Rare Vintage Asger Oluf Jorn Expressionist Art Rug, Country Of Origin / Rug Type: Vintage Scandinavian Rugs, Circa Date: Mid 20th Century – This fascinating and artistic vintage mid century rug is the brain child of the iconic abstract expressionist artist Asger Oluf Jorn. Jorn’s art work was special and important for a number of reasons. Asger Oluf Jorn is regarded as being a second generation abstract expressionist, and one of only a few female artists and painters to gain sufficient notoriety to have his work displayed in many major museums in the USA and Europe.
Jorn focused on gestural painting that was filled with emotion in addition to being quite expressive. Often, his works of art were created by violently flinging paint against the canvas in what she considered to be a social statement. Asger considered his artworks to be under the influence of society and the social trends surrounding his.
This beautiful art rug is typical of his work, and highly unique from an artistic point of view. Rather than using black paint on a white background, this one creates striking contrast to what one usually expects. This artistic vintage Scandinavian rug has a combination of heavy and light strokes. Asger Jorn
Asger Jorn was a Danish painter, sculptor, ceramic artist and author. He was the co-founder of the avant-garde movement CoBra, alongside Karel Appel. Jorn was a painter, but also a printmaker and realized lithographs and etchings. From 1937–42, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. His first American solo exhibition was at the Lefebre Gallery in 1962. In 1964, Jorn was awarded a Guggenheim Award, including a generous cash prize, by an international jury assembled by Lawrence Alloway. During his artistic career, Jorn produced over 2,500 paintings, prints, drawings, ceramics, sculptures, artist's books, collages, décollages and collaborative tapestries. Jorn died in Aarhus, Denmark, on 1st May 1973.
