About the Item
77769, vintage French Medieval tapestry, the Promenade tapestry. Drawing inspiration from a combination of Pieter van Aeist and French Medieval style, this vintage tapestry depicts the royal aristocrats and their servants. This is a reproduction from a series called La tenture de la Vie Seigneuriale, woven by Pieter van Aeist, a Flemish master weaver in Brussels and now housed at Cluny Museum, Paris. This vintage tapestry depicts beautifully dressed aristocrats surrounded by an all-over millefleurs pattern comprised of floral sprigs, trees, and birds on a navy blue backdrop. It is enclosed with a floral Meander border. Whether in a densely or sparsely appointed interior, this versatile French tapestry lends the perfect amount of 'a joie de vivre' meaning to experience the joys of living, loving and playing by getting back to nature. Rendered in variegated shades of navy blue, cerulean, tan, ecru, brown, red, light yellow, pink, rose, orange, taupe, oyster gray, and beige. With its commitment to tradition and heart full of whimsy, this medieval wall hanging can enliven nearly any opulent period-interior with color and vitality. Well-suited for a variety of interiors: French, Rococo, Louis XIV, Louis XI, Louis XV, Rococo, Regal, Baroque, Renaissance, Old World, Traditional, and European. Abrash. Hand-woven wool. Tapestry is a form of textile art, traditionally woven by hand on a loom. Tapestry is weft-faced weaving, in which all the warp threads are hidden in the completed work, unlike cloth weaving where both the warp and the weft threads may be visible. In tapestry weaving, weft yarns are typically discontinuous; the artisan interlaces each colored weft back and forth in its own small pattern area. It is a plain weft-faced weave having weft threads of different colors worked over portions of the warp to form the design.
Most weavers use a natural warp thread, such as wool, linen or cotton. The weft threads are usually wool or cotton but may include silk, gold, silver, or other alternatives.
