About the Item

Pair of period Charles II oak arm chairs with exquisite hand carved decoration. The backs of the chairs have arched tops with hand carved decorations depicting putti and floral baskets, flanked by flowers and acanthus leaves with wonderfully detailed carved finials as well. The oval back is caned and is surrounded by a wreath of florals and acanthus leaves as well, flanked by barley twist columns. The arms are very stately and measure 29 inches in height, following down to caned seats, which measure 18 inches in height. All of the caning appears original and is in excellent condition as well, which is very unusual for chairs of this age. The chairs are supported by hand turned barley twist legs, connected by lovely stretchers and a from stretcher that mirrors the top of the chair with gorgeous floral urns, flanked by putti and acanthus leaves. These are absolutely stunning and to own pieces from this period in this condition is not only rare, it is a privilege.
