A late 19th-century French Napoleon III chair that embodies elegance and historical charm. Crafted with a solid wood frame and an iron back support, its graceful barrel-shaped back offers both style and comfort. Sitting low to the ground, the chair features a squared seat with a rolled edge, resting on beautifully turned front legs and elegantly shaped rear legs, all adorned with brass beaded detailing at the foot and mounted on casters for easy mobility. Uniform white thread stitching on the seat further accentuates the meticulous attention to detail. Deconstructed to reveal its original burlap lining, secured with nailhead trim, this chair showcases authentic craftsmanship. The intact horsehair and straw stuffing adds to its historical authenticity, while the dark-stained legs and lower frame enhance its refined appearance. The curved back ensures a comfortable seating experience, making this chair not only a unique aesthetic piece but also exceptionally comfortable. This Napoleon III chair is a true testament to 19th-century French furniture making, offering a perfect blend of historical significance and timeless beauty. Found in France, circa 1870. The original burlap liner has been replaced to keep with the traditional style (as found). Multiple holes from the old upholstery nails give character to the wood frame. Sturdy, comfortable with overall wear consistent with age and use. Measures approximately 23.375” W x 27.625” D x 33.625” H; floor to seat measures 13.625” H.
