About the Item

A handsome example of a Victorian bow-back armchair - often referred to as a ‘Captain’s’ or ‘Smoker’s’ chair. Carved and turned in elm and oak, with a rich patina owed to the heavy wear of its original, treacle-like paint finish. English, c. 1850.
