About the Item

Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely stunning antique painted 1622 dated William & Mary throne armchair Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price. A very good looking well made and decorative armchair with a super antiqued and aged painted finish. The chair is ornately carved all over, at the very top you have a pair of reclining maidens of some description, they look very 17th century and primitive, in between said maidens you have the 1622 date carved, the next row down has the letters M (flower) G (flower) M which leads on to the back rest which has a kind of Armorial Coat of Arms crest to the centre, the base of the back has WMII for William & Mary Condition wise for the period is sublime, this chair is so tactile, and the patina is to die for, think how many hundreds and maybe thousands of people have used this chair, how many centuries of love and use it took to get looking like this, if the age on the back rest is correct this chair is 403 years old! To put that in to context, the Declaration of Independence was signed 249 years ago so its 150 years older than the formation of the United States Dimensions: Height 126cm seat height 47cm Width 73cm Depth 55cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
