Two impressive Victorian era library, club or parlor arm chairs and ottomans. Made from mahogany with a pierced foliate back, downswept padded arms with accompanied S scroll supports, turned wheel medallions and geometric floral upholstery. Crest rail is scrolled and centered by a 20 petal chrysanthemum flanked by leaves on each side. The chair is supported by turned beehive legs along the front over a baluster turned arrow foot and square legs at the rear. An important and rare pair of original French Art Deco period cubist arm chairs of simple and very elegant design. The warm brown finished rosewood is exceptionally well-figured and trimmed with a thin nickeled bronze decorative banding all around the base and overall. Since these chairs are finished on all three sides, they can be placed freestanding in the middle of a room featuring a beautiful back. Antique hob nails as welting surround the caramel colored upholstered leather. Futuristic, clean and architectural lines grace this pair of side chairs and read like art but are made for everyday use and enjoyment.
