Chinese Qing Dynasty Period 19th Century Elmwood Armchair with Hand-Carved Apron

About the Item

A Chinese Qing Dynasty period elm wood armchair from the 19th century with hand-carved apron and floral motifs. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty in the 19th century, this elm wood armchair features a slightly out-scrolling stick back, adorned with two delicate hand-carved floral motifs interrupting the mid section. Connected to two arms of similar style, the back rests on a rectangular wooden seat showcasing typical knots and imperfections. Raised on four straight slightly splaying legs, the chair is adorned with a hand-carved apron in the front presenting scrolling foliage flanking a cross-hatched motif topped with a radiating rays, the sides and back being simply scalloped. The legs are strengthened with plain side stretchers or varying heights, giving additional visual interest to the ensemble. With its clean lines, delicately carved décor and warm brown patina, this 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty period elm wood armchair will make for a lovely addition to any home, perhaps displayed in a living room, bedroom or foyer.
