D61 Chairs by El Lissitzky for Tecta Germany - 1980s

About the Item

The D61 Chair was originally designed by El Lissitzky for the 1930s Hygiene Exhibition in Dresden, Germany. Tecta re-issued this chair for a short period in the late 1970s -early 1980s. We have currently four armchairs available; they are all executed in thick clear acryl (plexiglass). The seats have been re-upholstered in a dark blue natural mohair. They are in great condition and ready for daily use. Note that one of the chairs has some more signs of use than the others around the armrests, as per images. The chairs are priced individually, we will offer one chair for free if the set of four is purchased. About the designer: El Lissitzky (1890–1941) was a Russian avant-garde artist and designer, pivotal in the early 20th-century art movements. Associated with Suprematism and Constructivism, he collaborated with Kazimir Malevich. Lissitzky pioneered abstract art, geometric forms, and innovative design, particularly in book illustration. Notable for "Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge," a politically charged work during the Russian Civil War, his impact extended to exhibition design and architecture. His legacy encompasses a transformative influence on modern art and design, showcasing a fusion of artistic expression with a profound engagement in social and political contexts. Origination : Germany, 1970s. Condition: Very good, minor signs of use in the form of some minimal scratches that are very hard to capture on photo. All hardware is present and original. No visible repairs. One of the chairs has some fissures around the armrests, but remains stable and ready for use.
