De Wit 4014 tubular steel Dutch lounge chair, The Netherlands 1950s

About the Item

Back-leg less de Wit armchair in tubular steel and black teddy fabric designed by Toon de Wit in the 1950s. These chairs by de Wit are very compact and very comfortable. The seat and backrest are origiginally upholstered with black manchester rib fabric and it has bakelite arms. The seat height is 40 cm and the seat depth is 47 cm. De Wit n.v. The Dutch furniture company de wit n.v. From Schiedam was founded after the war by two brothers, Toon and Martien de Wit. Toon was the designer and worked as a designer at Gispen before the war. They supplied quality tubular furniture at Gebr de Wit and also made tubular furniture for Gispen. The company closed its doors in 1977.
