About the Item

This armchair is the result of several experiences with hand-woven natural fiber rush. On this armchair project we focused on exploring the in numerous possibilities of contrast and texture which only this material can provide. The piece was designed for verandas and is part of the collection which uses the names of the beaches on the coast of the state of Rio. Among the pieces in the collection are the Itaguaçu Sofa, the Marambaia chair, the Joatinga Armchair, and others. This type of rush (Typha domingensis) is a water plant which grows in Brazil, typically found in mangroves, swamps, bayous, creeks and other water reserves. It is a plant that purifies polluted water, absorbing heavy metals, and being highly adaptable to other environments. It is found worldwide and in some parts of the world is considered a weed. Vidigal armchair received the award “Planeta Casa” in São Paulo in 2012.

Astral Brazilian Contemporary Wood and Fabric Easychair by Lattoog
By Lattoog
Located in Sao Paolo, BR
The “Astral” armchair is Lattoog's latest release for Empório das Cadeiras and is the youngest of a family of furniture affectionately baptized by the designers of Série Viralatas. Two pieces of furniture, in general modernist classics, are fused (or syncretized) to result in a third design of an original piece of furniture, completely different from the others, but with a strong “genetic load” of its generative matrices. A concept invented by Lattoog in 2005 that has been a great influence for designers from Brazil and abroad as well. Here, strong but subtle references to Brazilian roots and culture are presented: Miscegenation, syncretism and “viralism”. Astral is born from the fusion of the shapes of the Tank armchair...

Arraia Brazilian Contemporary Wood and Fabric Chair by Lattoog
By Lattoog
Located in Sao Paolo, BR
The Arraia armchair design once again links the shapes of nature to the traits of Lattoog designers. Here, marine life, with its vast “library” of ever-flowing and sinuous forms, lent its curves to encourage formal speculations about the possibilities of folding wood. A certain idea of ??melting or organicity was brought precisely to break the rigidity of the wood of the arms and backrest, which are gently supported on the base structure. The final result of this piece reminds us of a stingray in motion – light...

Contemporary Chair, Sustainable Natural Yaré Fiber, by Fango 'F. Jaramillo'
By Fango
Located in Barcelona, ES
Manufactured by Fango. Colombia, 2023 Yaré fiber and metal structure. Measurements 46 x 56 x 90h cm 18,1 x 22 x 35,4h in Provenance Fango Studio, Medellín, Colombia. Exhibitions Casavells 2023. Concept The Ibuju collection projects the synergy of designing and storytelling, an essential intention of Fango’s creative director, Francisco Jaramillo. The series stems from concern over the indiscriminate logging and overuse of the native woods from the endangered green lung of planet earth, the Amazon, a jungle increasingly fading from the world. Looking for alternatives to build functional furniture in native materials, Jaramillo and the weavers of Fango discovered the renewable Yaré fiber. Yaré is a fiber commonly called “vine", a root that grows around the trunks of trees in the Colombian Amazon. These fibers are used by local indigenous communities in southern Colombia for handcrafted weaving, which inspired Jaramillo to translate the native aesthetics and geometries of primitive wooden...
