About the Item

An armchair in the ‘Chinese Chippendale’ manner. The design for the frame of this chair is drawn from Plate XXVII in Thomas Chippendale’s ‘The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker’s Directory; having square block footed front legs with extensive piercing, the rear legs of ‘kick away’ form; the arms decorated with a ‘spider web; design; the panelled back within a frame work incorporating oriental swastikas, and a toprail surmounted with a pagoda form cap.
