French Carved Folk Art Chair, circa 1880s

About the Item

Very lovely Folk Art armchair of generous proportions. The wood (probably oak) is finely carved with an intricate decor. The crest is topped with a sacred heart symbol, and fruit and leaves of the vine. These also serpent down the front uprights. The sides are carved with a zig-zagging frieze, interspersed with delicate little flowers. Turned stretcher. Recently reupholstered.
