Gainsborough Armchair 19th century

About the Item

Good 19th century Gainsborough armchair in mahogany with new crimson linnen upholstery. This type of chair was named after the famous painter Thomas Gainsborough who often depicted these in his works. To the contemporary it was actually known as a 'French Chair' as it was the English interpretation of the comfortable Louis XV chair. To this day it is very popular in offices, libraries throughout the UK and the United states. When looking at this well executed chair you can't help but notice that it is, apart from a piece of history to settle in, a great design and still modern after 2 century's.
