Berlin based, Bauhaus educated, multi-disciplinary designer Hannes Grebin has created a group of upholstered seating for Todd Merrill Custom Originals, inspired by the questioning of traditional domestic decor. Applying the principals of Cubism to design, Grebin masterfully deconstructs the traditional shapes and detailing of a “family room sofa” into simplified geometric shapes and interlocking planes. The sofa is hand built with the highest quality construction and upholstered in gold silk velvet by hand. The cast bronze legs are designed and created by Markus Haase. Taking inspiration from the twisting forms of seaweed and other natural materials, Haase hand-carves each element of his unique dining chair before casting it in his New York City studio. The bronze components are then welded together by the artist and polished to a mirror finish. Shown upholstered in white pony hair, the chair can be upholstered in a variety of materials.
