About the Item

Fabulous futurist Limande armchair by Kwok Hoï Chan for Maison Steiner, 1968, France, Chrome and chocolate coloured skai minor scratches. Born in Hong Kong in 1939, Kwok Hoï Chan is an endearing figure in international design. He undertakes studies of architect. In 1966 he emigrated to England where he worked on the construction of the Queen Elizabeth 2 liner. He moved to France and began a long and fruitful collaboration with the company Steiner. The works he creates appear for many of them in the Hall of Design of the 1960s and 1970s. He died in 1990 in Hong Kong. The armchair Limande was born in 1969. It was the late Chinese designer and figurehead Steiner, Kwok Hoï Chan, who designed it the same weekend as another of his flagship models, the chair Zen. From the look of this chair came its name from Limande. Called "Lemon Sole" in English, it consists of a large tray of foam and full-grain black leather or skai and thin cantilevered steel legs that give it the air of flat fish in levitation. From the erotic year, where it was drawn, until today, the armchair Limande remained an object of desire. The seventies welcome it with great enthusiasm because it corresponds well to the spirit of the time. In the hippie period, where you do not hesitate to sit on the ground, its ultra-low seat that hovers 33 cm from the ground, falls at the right time. Its chromed tube structure, a material dear to Kwok Hoï Chan and very trendy at the time, gives flexibility, lightness and especially comfort to the Limande armchair. By combining the need for shapes and ergonomics, the stylist has managed to make his creation a timeless classic. Easy to move, elegant and sober, it is like a fish in the water in our contemporary interiors and blends with both modern and antique furniture.
