About the Item

This early Baroque chair is made from rich Italian walnut. The broad antique frame was carved by the Italian sculptor and wood carver Andrea Fantoni, see accompanying photo. The arms and the front legs are intertwining scrolls that were a signature of this artist. A handsome conversation piece for any room requiring a large, comfortable signature antique chair. A. Fantoni is an Italian sculptor and wood carver of the late-Baroque period. He worked in the region of Bergamo producing statues, reliefs and carved furniture. He is best known for his wooden confessional in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo. N.P. Trent has been a respected name in antiques for over 30 years with a large collection of period furniture, art and decorative accessories.
