About the Item
These armchairs were produced by Cantù Móveis e Interiores Ltda. in the 1960s and were part of the company's catalog from that period. With a turned solid Jacaranda wood frame and rounded details, the seats, backs, and loose cushions were reupholstered in light beige linen, giving them a refreshed look.
For a time, these pieces were mistakenly attributed to Sérgio Rodrigues and were even named "Poltrona Vivi." The original design, however, was created by architects Jorge Jabour Mauad and Osires Cunha Meale, who were responsible for a vast collection of Brazilian furniture, designed by architects and produced by small companies in the 1960s and 1970s. These professionals focused on the development of interior design and decoration projects, using materials such as Brazilian Jacaranda wood, marble, leather, glass, and national fabrics.

Hauner & Eisler - Moveis Artesanal - Rare Pair of 1950s nest table in rosewood
By Martin Eisler, Carlo Hauner
Located in São Paulo, SP
This set of nesting tables, designed by Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner for Móveis Artesanal in the mid-1950s, is a rare and iconic example of modern Brazilian design. Made from solid rosewood, the tables stand out for their light forms and sophisticated use of materials. The thin, tapered legs add elegance, while the white Formica tops create a striking contrast with the warm tone of the wood.
Móveis Artesanal was a company that preceded Forma, where the design duo became more widely recognized. The functional and versatile design of the nesting tables reflects the designers’ ability to combine aesthetics with practicality, allowing the tables to be used separately or grouped together. This set is a classic example of Brazilian modernist furniture...
