About the Item
A rare original vintage polyhedral easy chair.
A model 93 easychair designed 1955 and made by first original maker Søren Willadsen, Vejen.
Overstuffed body upholstered with Kvadrat fabric Sunniva. Round tapering legs of teak.
Manufactured by Søren Willadsen, Vejen 1955-59
The chair was first presented at the Furniture fair “Dansk Købestævne” August 1955 in the town of Fredericia.
Here it was part of an interior designed by the Architect couple Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel. They presented a distinctly modern interior that demonstrated the strenght of their partnership in life as in work.
The chair was in a way, not a typical Danish piece, as with this chair, the design is more about its strong graphic presence, rather than the normal Danish focus on craftsmanship. Again pointing to the international tone of the couple.
The chair has an affinity to the “Mariposa” easy chair by Gio Ponti. That he designed for the Villa Planchart in Caracas. A project Ponti worked with from 1953-1957
The original sketch drawing by the Ditzels for the chair is dated June 14th 1955 , and seems a sign that several great designers in this period toiled with polyhedral design.
The 93 chair was no commercial succes after its introduction, and this is one of only very few known original historic examples.
It should be noted that the name Tux chair for this model is a recent "marketing name" that was only invented when the model was it was re-issued in recent years.
