About the Item

A high quality and most elegant pair of French 18th century Louis XVI Period Giltwood Bergère armchairs. This stunning pair of armchairs are raised by four toupie shaped circular tapered legs decorated with flutes and richly carved chandelles all below acanthus leaves. The rounded protruding apron displays a Rais de Coeur bottom band below an interlocking circular motif flanked by outer blocks with central rosettes. Above are large and fanciful acanthus leaves leading to the scrolled upholstered arms with additional acanthus leaves at the arm rest. The handsome square back showcases the same interlocking and continuous circular design as the apron. All original gilt throughout
