pair of French 19th century Louis XV st. patinated and Giltwood armchairs

About the Item

A pair of country French early 19th century Louis XV st. patinated and giltwood armchairs from Provence. Each armchair is raised by elegant cabriole legs with scrolled feet and brown polychrome acanthus leaves and finely carved seashell cabochons at each corner. A most decorative giltwood fillet extends up each leg and along the arbalest shaped frieze which displays fine foliate patterns and a central carved seashell reserve set on a patinated green background. The cushioned arm supports have beautiful scrolled movements and acanthus leaves while the upholstered back support has fine giltwood floral designs. All below the top crown of a striking scrolled shape above decorated with elegant movements and acanthus leaves.
