About the Item

‎These armchairs were created during the end of one of history’s most fascinating design periods: Art Deco. The style is elegant and refined, yet delightfully simple at its core. Predating the strict functionality of mid-century modernism, this armchair model is preoccupied with aesthetics, showcasing geometric elements that define the look. The period was also fond of contrast, creating a striking yet balanced designs, both chromatically and textually, which is evident in this pair. Upholstered in a rich green fabric, these chairs exude a timeless vibrancy that radiates warmth and refinement. The choice of green was a signature of the Art Deco period, as it evoked a sense of luxury and richness while remaining grounded in the aesthetics of the time. With gently rounded edges, these chairs have a stylish flow to them. This is enhanced by the dark wood, which is used to inlay the edges. This pair can give any space a distinct look thanks to the beautiful contrast between materials and colours. The clever use of the straight and rounded edges of both the wooden legs and the upholstered body shows not only design mastery, but also that quality craftsmanship was evidently of optimum importance for the cabinetmaker who created these chairs. The plush seat invites comfort while maintaining the functional simplicity, central to the era's ethos, and in Flemming Lassen’s words, this shape is “as warm and safe as a polar bear cub in the arms of its mother in the middle of the ice cap”. The four short wooden legs allow the eye to appreciate the chair’s body without overwhelming the space, while ensuring stability. These armchairs reflect the fusion of modernity with a nod to classic craftsmanship and Art Deco glamour. This pair is not merely functional furniture; it is a testament to an era that valued elegance, innovation, and an appreciation for both quality and creativity. Condition: In good vintage condition.
