Pair of Italian Armchairs in the manner of Marco Zanuso, Italy 1960s

About the Item

The postwar boom years of the 1950s through to the 1960s was a period of great influence from Italian designers. Design in the 60s paved a way to a more aesthetical approach to products as opposed to its utilitarian predecessors, resulting in exceptional pieces like these armchairs. Marco Zanuso once said “There is no border between craftsmanship and design. What we do on the model, which will then be reproduced a thousand times, is an activity in which we bring all our experience.” This model, with its dynamic look, combines modern forms and function. This pair is quite understated and well measured in its design, the linearity of the body and armrests are visually in the same vein as Marco Zanuso’s “Regent” and “Lady” chairs. The bodies embrace the sitter comfortably with their sloping yet geometric armrests, which creates a cosy feel and look. The seats are nested into the chairs, following a smooth and unitary aesthetic. This careful attention to the shape and proportions ensures that these chairs are as comfortable as they are aesthetically pleasing. The chairs are supported by tapered legs that are splayed for perfect stability. There is an interesting, yet harmonious contrast present; the angularity and proportions of the chairs are perfectly balanced by the thin, sleek look of the legs. Furthermore, the upholstery showcases a classic, understated texture that complements a variety of interior styles, making these chairs versatile additions to any space. This pair combines Italian elegance and modern aesthetics resulting in a timeless look which is full of modern energy that will endure for generations. This is also thanks to their exceptional visual quality and uncompromising level of craftsmanship. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The chairs have been reupholstered recently in a premium fabric. Each of our items can be reupholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information.
