About the Item
A most impressive pair of Italian early 19th century Louis XV st. Giltwood armchairs. Each striking chair is raised by cabriole legs with elegant topie shaped feet, lavish scrolled acanthus leaves, and richly carved foliate designs at each corner. The arbalest shaped frieze is centered by a finely carved seashell reserve with a decorative scrolled and foliate pattern. The outstanding arms are decorated with scrolled movements and large acanthus leaf carvings. The lovely shaped cushioned back support displays a reeded design with richly carved movements centered by a detailed female mask. Wonderful proportions and generously wide seats.
