About the Item

Rare Belgian Mid-Century Modern 1940s Lounge Chair / fireside chair,/ armchair / club chair by the leading Belgian modernist designer, Marcel Baugniet (1896-1995, Liege, Belgium). The chair is visually dramatic . It is sleek and low to the ground as it maintains an open, transparent, modern aesthetic. It is unique as it integrates tradition with a spare, modern sensibility while utilizing wood, rope and cotton in harmony. Marcel Baugniet became known as the leading exponent of modernism in Belgium with his geometric abstract drawings and his geometric, rational furniture in metal and wood. This rare piece demonstrates the unique quality of his work and his virtuosity in multiple mediums. Documentation: Metal plaque signed with MB Logo / BAUGNIET on frame.
