Coppia di poltrone Saghi disegnate da Kazuhide Takahama per Simon Gavina, Italy 1970.

Kazuhide Takahama (1930 - 2010) è nato sull'isola giapponese di Kyushu. Nel 1953 si laurea in architettura al Tokyo Institute of Technology.
A 27 anni diventa docente presso la stessa università e ottiene il suo primo incarico come designer: Takahama viene incaricato di allestire il padiglione giapponese per l'XI Triennale di Milano nel 1957. È in questa occasione che incontra Dino Gavina. Questo primo incontro segnerà un'importante svolta nella sua carriera e l'inizio di una fruttuosa collaborazione e profonda amicizia. Prima di tornare a casa, Kazuhide Takahama disegna il divano Naeko per Gavina (primo progetto di Takahama messo in serie e commercializzato). Durante il suo soggiorno in Giappone ha lavorato come professore universitario e curatore di progetti architettonici e progettuali, ma ha ancora mantenuto i contatti con Gavina che alla fine lo ha convinto a trasferirsi in Italia. Arriva in Italia nel 1963 con la moglie Naeko e la figlia maggiore Kaori e si stabilisce a Bologna.
Numerose collaborazioni con aziende di design italiane: Gavina, Simon, Paradisoterrestre, B&B, Sirrah (poi assorbita da Guzzini) solo per citarne alcune. La sua attività professionale non si limita alla progettazione di mobili e illuminazione: progetta interni ed esterni e cura i lavori di ristrutturazione di residenze private e committenze pubbliche. Tra questi ultimi, ricordiamo la facciata e la vip lounge dell'aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi e le tettoie alle fermate degli autobus a Bologna.

Kazuhide Takahama
Kazuhide Takahama was a Japanese designer born in Miyazaki, Japan. After graduating from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1953, Takahama designed the Japanese Pavilion for the Milan Triennale. There he met Dino Gavina, and over the next decade, Takahama designed several pieces for Gavina.
Later, Takahama also collaborated with B&B Italia, Simon and Knoll, just to name a few. His designs are clear in line and shape and have a high-quality design. With the functionalist approach to modernism, he designed with a Japanese sense of material and aesthetics conveniently combined with Western elements.
